These naughty bobbysoxers grew up through the collection, donning their mothers' furs and silk robes snatched out their wardrobes for the prom, before a more mature finale of evening gowns whose feather midriffs caught the whole hyper hip movement so dominant in Europe this season. "It was about our youth really," said Dan, while brother Dean added, "the fun parts!"
The DSquared2 duo of Dean and Dan Caten went back to high school for inspiration while very much taping into what's best in contemporary fashion with a slick, upbeat fall 2012 collection.
Before a high school yard featuring bandstand and basketball hoops, and a banner that read "Welcome to Caten High School Graduation Class 2013," the twin designers sent out some very memorable memorabilia fashion.
Their opening school gals swept up the catwalk in ever-so-ragged cropped jeans pants, pencil skirts and cropped jackets, made in jaunty pinks and limes. Done up with some super hot beehive hairdos - courtesy of famed U.K. hairstylist Charlotte Tilbury - they boasted all the seductive glory of North American teenager-hood. Carnaby Street jockey caps in leopard prints, sequined "bad girl" high heels and shiny wee bags kept the show snappy yet hyper plausible.
Ultimately, the whole point of creating a collection and putting it on a runway is to create clothes than make women look beautiful and feel better about themselves. And the Catens, by dint of their savvy eyes, smart tailoring and exuberant humor, manage to do that better than the vast majority of their contemporaries. These Canadian-born twins are the kings of Hip European sportswear.
